History - In WWII civilian vehicle production was halted to focus on war goods. But by 1944 there was a shortage of trucks state-side needed to produce raw materials. A small production-run of civilian Dodge trucks was authorized in April of 1944 to be used in the war effort and rationed by the War Production Board. This WFA-31 got the optional 2-speed rear axle, eavy-duty frame reinforcement plates, nd a Gar-Wood 2-yard Hydraulic Dumping Hoist. This truck was likely used for mining during the end of the war here in Montana. After the war it was auctioned to a local ranch. The engine was rebuilt and the truck was used for jobs around the ranch. In the rancher's elder years it was stored in good condition for many years. I have owned it for over 5 years. It fired right up with some basic maintenance. I used it around the ranch, ut am in a wheelchair now and can't drive it any more. My 9-year-old can start it up and work the clutch while I shift and we can putter around the ranch, ut it is time to pass it on to a good home where it can be driven and enjoyed.
Wheels and Tires - The very rare 5-lug 22.5" rims and tires are not included in the auction. The winning bidder has the option to purchase them for an additional $2500. The rear 4 have been sand blasted and powder coated and fitted with new radial 245/70r22.5 tires. The tires have zero miles on them. The front tires are Carleton 8-22.5" in very good condition. The rear tires were about $1000 before the mounting, lasting, nd powder coat. The wheels are $200 each, nd the front tires are $150 each. If the 22.5" wheels and tires are not wanted the truck will ship with the original 20" wheels.
This truck is in very good condition but has mostly been stored over the last few decades. I changed the oil, lugs, oolant, oses, hermostat, ap, otor, rake master cylinder, attery, tc.. Brakes still need some bleeding. Truck runs strong but could use some tuning. Carb could use a seal kit.
Truck ships from Stevensville, ontana, .S.A. 59870. It is about 19 feet long and weighs about 6000 lbs.
