Please read the description fully and ensure that you can meet the obligations of this auction before bidding.

As is stated above, this is a NO RESERVE auction for a 1990 Jeep Cherokee. This is probably the toughest little SUV ever made, with the powerful and nearly bullet-proof 4.0L Straight 6 Engine. This one has the 5-speed manual transmission, which you don’t often see, and is what you need for a real off-roader. This Jeep needs some TLC, but would make a great off-road adventurer, or a great winter vehicle for the snow. It has also been set up to tow behind an RV. It has the bracket under the front bumper and the lights have been wired, you just need the hitch attachment. It has a West Virginia Safety Inspection sticker on it that expires in August 2016.

The engine on this Jeep is the legendary 4.0L straight 6. These things run forever if taken care of properly. This one starts right up, and has plenty of power. It does not overheat or blow smoke or coolant vapor from the exhaust, and there is no sign of coolant in the oil or oil in the coolant. It does have a very light amount of blow-by when you take the oil cap off. The clutch feels good and the manual transmission shifts through all of its gears, but the clutch does need to be bled. The previous owner replaced the hard and rubber sections of the clutch line between the master and slave cylinders, but you have to push the clutch all the way in to avoid grinding between shifts. I don’t see any leaks, so I suspect it wasn’t bled properly, or maybe the master or slave cylinder is due for a rebuild / replacement. The brakes are strong. The suspension feels OK, not as firm as I prefer, but it’s not bouncy either. The 4X4 Hi and Lo work. The tires are in good condition and have an aggressive tread pattern and tall sidewalls for extra ground clearance. When driving there is some excessive “lash” in the steering, and it may need an alignment because there is a vibration above 55mph on the highway.

The exterior of this Jeep is decent for the age and mileage. The white paint is faded and there is some surface rust, mainly on the doors. The most serious rust is along the bottom of the driver’s door, and there is some on the underside of the hood, but the body is otherwise pretty solid. The undercarriage appears solid, though there is a small hole starting at the front of the driver’s floorboard, but it does not go all the way through. The glass is all good and the lights all work. The front wipers work normally, but the rear wiper does not.

The interior of this Jeep is in surprisingly good shape for the age. The dash and door panels are clean, the carpets look nice, the cloth seats are clean and intact, though the driver’s seat has some small holes and sags towards the door when you sit on it. The power windows all work. The power locks do not. It has cruise control but I have not tested it. The A/C blows ice cold! The heater feels warm to me, but I can’t tell if it is working properly because the ambient temperature here is so hot right now. The headliner is sagging. The gauges on the dash all work. The oil pressure gauge shows pressure at the lower end of “normal,” but this Jeep is overdue for an oil change. The Voltmeter reads low-normal as well, but I’ve not had any problems with the battery draining. No warning lights are showing on the dash. The “part-time” light for the 4wd stays on even when the Jeep is in 2wd. This is probably just because the vacuum switch that tells the light to turn on / off needs to be cleaned and adjusted. The radio has been taken out.

This would be a great winter, off-road, or “behind the RV” travel vehicle for someone. It has good bones and a great engine, but it does need some TLC. It’s a 26 year-old Jeep Cherokee, not a brand new Jeep Cherokee that just rolled out of the factory, so take that into account. I think the Jeep is in overall average condition for the age and mileage, and the interior is in better shape than most of the Jeeps I’ve seen, but that is my subjective opinion.
