1971 Cyclone GTs are very rare cars. With production totaling 2287 units produced, he survivors are surely much fewer. This Cyclone with its combination of desirable options is bound to be among the rarest.

With only 73 cars produced in Competition Blue with the Black Bucket Seat Interior the numbers would get quite low when you factor in this level of option content. In fact, his car is very likely a 1 of 1 production.

This car has somehow survived the years without the normal amount of modifications from enthusiastic teenagers or the corroding hands of Mother Nature. It is refreshing to see the original components all there and proper.

The car does have plenty of patina but still presents well. The car wears what appears to be a single repaint in the original Competition Blue. The paint still shines nicely and overall the panels line up well.

Going over the body, he panels are clear of rust bubbles and I see no signs of any prior rust. There is one very small spot of rust in the trunk just to the left hand side of the fuel tank, ee pics. The floors, uarters, rame rails etc show no signs of rust or accident damage. There is some damage on the passenger door and front fender, ee pics. Overall though, he car still looks like a survivor and any true enthusiast can appreciate the originality.

Inside the Factory Black Knit Bucket Seat Interior is showing some age.

The door panels have the typical cracks but all the trim appears to be present (these can be restored by a couple of vendors). The hard to find bucket seats are still there as is the console and killer Cyclone angled gauges dash. The factory power windows are complete and they do work.

Under the hood the 351 Cleveland still runs excellent. It still wears its correct accessories including its factory A/C system which is complete but will of course need to be serviced. The famous 4 Barrel Cylinder heads are there still wearing their ‘Dripper’ valve covers. The heavy duty C6 Automatic goes into gear quickly and shifts properly.

The car actually drives nicely and the ‘Upscale’ Mercury’s were known for how much quieter & refined they were compared to their Ford cousins. They came with hidden headlights, ore standard options and the Cyclones came with a killer ‘Gun Site’ Grill.

With the combination of options this car would make for an excellent ‘driven restoration’ candidate or even go for the full restoration and have a very rare, ery well equipped Muscle Car.
