Mercury Comet 1973 Description
Ok yes it is a 4 door but look at it it's still got a lot of cool potential. Unmolested solid car. I drive it 3-4 days a week. It has some quirks but it always starts and drives. Odometer shows 98xxx miles and I believe it to be correct. AZ title in my name. 302 V8 C4 trans fact. A/C P/S original AM radio aftermarket cruise control(unknown condition)and Stewart Warner triple gauges. Has dual exhaust with turbo style mufflers(pipes after the mufflers are rotted) 4 wheel manual drum brakes. 3 year old new shocks only have about 3000 miles on them. Original wheels and hubcaps in good shape with great condition Goodyear tires and a set of 2000 Mustang GT wheels with good tires on the car now. All original metallic green with white painted roof not vinyl not ever. Never crashed never painted I have included pics of the only body damage on the car perfect patina for a survivor hotrod project. The body is very solid with the exception of the left rear door which has a palm size rust hole on the bottom of it(can't be seen unless the door is open and you lay under it (see pics)) The other 3 doors have the beginning of pin-hole perforation in the corners of door skin but it goes well with the patina look. I will also include the billet grille insert I am working on. The interior is better than most 43 year old cars in the south west. All 4 door panels are in good shape. I have replacement front door pulls 1 black and 1 blue that need to be installed. Front seat needs to be re-covered as seen in pics(foam is still pretty good) the rear seat has a cover on it that was installed by/for the original owner and the headliner has 1 seam that is separating but the best way to fix that is a new headliner. Of course the dash pad is cracked. The right front lap belt has been tied in a knot I will see what I can do about it but for now consider it non-functional I bought it after it had sat for about a year and a half. The previous owner said they stopped driving it because of leaking water pump I bought a new one but have not installed it because the current one hasn't leaked. NEW starter battery and starter solenoid about 2 months ago. I also have NEW upper and lower control arms with ball joints and bushings a NEW pair of Moog front coil springs a spring compressor tool made for this style of front suspension and a set of 1" lowering blocks. I had planned to lower the car 2 inches up front and 1 inch in the back to go with the 17" mustang wheels. The 302 is unfortunately not original. The previous owner installed this one after running the original out of oil. It is reportedly a rebuilt 5.0 out of a 90' Ford van with unknown miles. It runs strong but there is a vibration I believe the previous owner installed the 73 flexplate instead of the correct 82-up flexplate needed for the 90 engine with the C4 trans. The A/C parts are all there and hooked up but I don't think it was recharged after engine swap and the compressor clutch is unplugged. The trans shifts through all gears and does not slip. It does have multiple small leaks(about 2 quarts a month). Also when outside temp is cold the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts are delayed until trans is warmed up. After driving for a while the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts will flare. You will either need to adjust your driving style to suit these issues or pull the trans and have it re-stacked with new seals. I have been driving it with no problem. I have way too many cars right now and not enough time or storage so this is one of many I plan to sell to make room.
I have more pictures if needed the limit on hereis 24. I have made every effort to disclose all known information about this car. That being said this is a 42 year old USED car and is sold as is where is. Feel free to come inspect it for yourself before you bid or I can take it to a local shop of your choice for an inspection at your cost. If you read this far I can't imagine you have any questions but call me if you do. Bob 909-519-9799
